What Are Wedding Photography Styles?


When couples ask me about wedding photography styles, they’re usually trying to figure out what approach will capture their day in a way that feels authentic and true to them. Wedding photography isn’t just about pretty pictures—it’s about storytelling, emotions, and memories you’ll cherish for a lifetime.

I specialize in natural, candid moments, with a mix of gentle, natural posing. My goal is for couples to feel relaxed and present in their photos, while still creating beautiful, timeless images. 1. Traditional / Classic Photography

This style focuses on posed, timeless shots—family portraits, formal ceremony images, and the iconic “bride and groom looking at each other” moments. While I love capturing these too, my approach keeps them natural and relaxed rather than stiff.

For example, in Hannah & Tyler's Wedding, instead of stiff poses, we focused on natural interactions: laughing together, holding hands, and walking side by side. The result was a gallery full of elegant yet effortless photos, with colors true to life and editing that stays authentic.


2. Candid / Documentary Photography

This is my favorite! Documentary or photojournalistic style is all about capturing real emotions and moments as they happen. No forced smiles, no awkward poses—just genuine connection.

In Alyssa & Iosif’s wedding, many of the best photos came from spontaneous moments: whispering jokes during portraits, sneaking glances at each other during the ceremony, and joyful reactions from family and friends. These candid shots tell the story of their day better than any posed image ever could.


3. Emotional First Looks

First looks are some of the most emotional moments of any wedding. While some couples do traditional first looks in private, I’ve also captured first looks while walking down the aisle, which can be incredibly powerful.

  • Emily & Sean: Their first look happened as Emily walked toward Sean. His genuine tears and wide smile made for unforgettable photos that perfectly captured their anticipation and excitement.
  • The Staffords: They opted for a first look mid-aisle with a playful twist, allowing for natural reactions and heartfelt embraces that felt completely authentic.

These moments are always a highlight because they feel real—and that’s exactly the kind of emotion I aim to capture in every wedding.

4. Fine Art / Lifestyle Influences

Even though I lean candid and natural, I do incorporate elements of lifestyle and fine art photography when it fits the couple. For example, during Alyssa & Iosif’s session, we used natural light and thoughtful composition to create images that feel timeless, editorial, and visually striking—but without losing that relaxed, authentic vibe.
